If it's metal - you're in luck. It will come off easily.
First, scrape off as much as you can with an old spoon or fork you have adopted as a cleaning tool. If there are any pieces large enough, a butter knife works.
Scrub as much as you can with a mild cleanser. That should work, if not, use a lighter to soften the wax and then it will clean up off of the metal.
The kind of metal and wax can be important. Consult a professional cleaner if the metal in question is valuable.

I've used the hair dryer to get wax off. I've tried the ice cube thing and it was too big a pain and it didn't come off very well. My hubby has used the lighter and it worked.

I had to clean someones house after they moved out and they used to stove top to make candles. They made a huge mess! I had to use the hairdryer all over it and once it got soft enough, I used a butter knife to scrape it off. Before it hardened again, I wiped the excess off with a paper towel.

I still had to use elbow grease and some S.O.S pads on some of it......and a few expletives to get the job done, but it worked. ;)

"Goo Gone" (which I don't know if you know what that is...WONDERFUL stuff for removing adhesives!!) made a product just for removing candle wax. Even comes packaged with a little wax lifter doo-dad tool....
I found one place that sells it if you're curious. It does the job for me. I like it alot:

BUT.....since you said the problem was on METAL (and I'm not all that sure it'd work on metal) I found a place that MIGHT help you better. Hope the link works:

I hope that helps ^_^

Good luck,

A hair dryer set on your highest setting. When the wax starts to get soft, gently scrape it off with a soft cloth.

if the metal is small enough, place in freezer for 30 min or so. wax comes off easily after it has been frozen

scrape the solid wax off with an old plastic card, then use a hairdryer to melt it while mopping it off with kitchen paper.
