Alright I have a new Crown Tail betta, he's a very active little guy. But I'm afriad he might be sick or something, he swims around like mad. This may sound stupid but there is a betta below him could he sense it's there and be stressed out trying to get to it? Or does he miss his old buddies that were in fish bowls next to him at the pet store. Any body who has betta fish with exprience please answer.

bettas are very territorial and become stressed easily when moved from familuar environments. he will naturally tend to want to fight new newcomers and for new territory. if he is able to see the beta below him he instictively will want to fight, if this is the case, place a sheet of paper or card board between them, or use gravel to create a natural barrier. I would then give him about a week to settle down. good luck

Are you sure that the water quality is good? You should keep your betta in clean, dechlorinated water. If you use water straight from the tap and don't dechlorinate it, it can harm your fish.

If your fish has external parasites, he will try to rub himself against tank decorations. This is called 'flashing'. This can also be caused by high levels of nitrite or ammonia.

If your fish is in a bowl, he requires frequent changes of water, anywhere from every other day to once a week, depending on how tiny the bowl is. I recommend a two to five gallon filtered tank for a betta.

Another thing-- watch out for fin rot; crowntails are very susceptible to it. Keeping his water extra clean will help you avoid it.

Betta fish have different moods. Sometimes mine lay around and other times their so active its crazy.

Its normal. He'll probably calm down when he settles into him new home. Give him a few days.

As for another fish, only if he can see him. Or maybe if he saw him once which i doubt. Fish dont have the best of memorys.

Good luck with your new betta!

Merry Christmas

I think the fish below him is pissing him off. You should move the other fish to a different place or the betta to a different place. Also if you just got him, he's probably still getting used to your place. Good luck!

most probably he is restless because of the betta below, but then he should be able to see the other guy. i dont think he can sense it in some other way. also bettas are lonely, they are not going to miss others from their species.

I doubt he misses his "buddies" but yes, the betta below him is undoubtedly stressing him out. They are very territorial.
