Okay, I know people have different opinions and perspectives towards any genre of music, but i've a lot of people here say rap music is for low-class, weak-minded, bullcrap people. I respect you guys for giving out your honest opinions. But seriously, that is such a riduculous comment. That is not true. Hip hop and it's music is not for weak minded people. It requires talent to be a good rapper. Why do you think so many people are coming into the rap industry today? They have certain talent of making RAP MUSIC .. whether it's "good" or "bad". Of course, I support good hip hop like royce da 5'9, tupac, big L, cormega, and immortal technique. not young joc or lil jon. Rapping requires many abilities. Rap IS music and poetry. Why can't you guys get that straight?

I agree. It does take talent, there are things to be shared, and like any written verse it can be poetic.

But c'mon, a good amount of rap releases are pretty silly (I think of the foul-mouthed gangsta/brag rap as comedy rap, like Seinfeld was a comedy TV show). It is quite offensive when blasted loudly to those who don't find that ugliness as charming as the rude fan. (Would you spew a string of cuss words and vile images in your daughter's/mother's/grandma's face?) Its offensiveness seeds most of the backlash (but there's some racism in there, too).

It is unfortunate that some artists and listeners drag the art form down into stereotypes. I've HAVE heard rap lyrics every bit as meaningful and thought-provoking as those in other musical types. And sadly, I've heard the ugliest of ugly in rap (even punk/metal is mostly tongue-in-cheek, aware that it's silly).

Of the ugly,...saddest of all, supply meets demand.

I think most people against rap have an image that it´s all about violence and drugs. I think it´s about getting a message out. Nowadays the scene has changed and unfortunately the big names are a bit too ´i lost my girl ´or ´i like girls´or just about ´love´and crap . The old skool is the true skool. Where i live its mainly the ´better off´people who are against it and others that say its not music. I bet you they can´t make a rhyme and keep it in time. the lil jon or dirty south is much more about being aggressive and shouting and i don´t like that. Del La Soul, Kool and the gang , Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie,Kool Herc, Roxanne Shante and others of their caliber are the true Rappers. But as times change not many remember the roots of rap.h and don´t forget the influences of Afrika Bambaataa. Think they where possibly the first to play with a punk band in New York and actually got booed, bet everyone there loves them now eh? and they even did work with the late James Brown (rip) and everyone loves James Brown.

I think the main reason most people in the mainstream don't like the Hip Hop generation and the artists is because they glorify their whole lifestyle. This wouldn't be so bad except they also shove it into people's faces that they didn't have to finish school, din't have to get a degree, didn't have to work from the ground up at minimum wage jobs, seem to have no regard for anyone else in society and unfortunately the vast majority of people don't live that way.
I hve no problem with Hip Hop artists like Jay-Z, Diddy, Pharrell and others like them because if you look at them they've realized that looking and thinking corporate is the only way to make it last long term. Kanye West on the other hand is just a big IDIOT trying to be lik them, but his big mouth will prevent him from getting there.

Today's rap artists are modern day minstrels, and for their day,
almost acceptable music, at least to my way of thinking.
However, there is such an element that we call quality, and that includes music in all its genres.

While I try to realize the real story of heartbreak and suffering
within the streets of inner city ghettos, and the limited opportunities afforded to those who happen to find themselves in this environment, rap and hip hop musicians abound because they are looking for ways to better themselves, to reach out and grab a higher stake in life, and no one can criticize them for that.

Unfortunately not all people understand the meaning and background of these rap artists, and do write them off if the listener does not like their(rap) music.
Of course, it takes talent to lyricize(put words) to music, thats
what made Rogers and Hammerstein II so great, or Lerner and Lowe, both superb broadway producers, on the music side.

I have nothing against rap and hip hop artists, but I find it very difficult to understand exactly what their message is if their
song is meant for a social projection.
All the music videos I have seen on TV,have their cameras focus in
on all the micro-mini skirted young attractive women, who know how to shake their southern posteriors, and undulate sensually
to the music, great drawing card, but quality in the music, sadly
lacking.

Good music is not pornographic, far from it, listen to some of the
classics, Fur Elise by Beethoven, Carmen by Georges Bizet,
Khatchaturian's Sparta theme, or Romeo and Juliet's love
song, Air on the string of G, and there are many more.

Whats my point? Simply this, if music is your thing, research
everything in music, be patient, and choose what genre is best for you, even grunge music if done right can be almost tolerable.
All depends what your musical tastes are, not any one of us have the same tastes, but start in at a solid base or foundation of musical knowledge, be patient, don't rush it, and gradually you will grow into a fair to middling musician depending on your own skills and abilities.

Now as far as music for weak-minded people, there is no basis of fact supporting this allegation of people who love rap and hip hop music are weak minded, I'll remind you that the USA has
young men and women , serving in the Armed Forces,
who are currently serving a tour of duty in Iraq, many of those fine
peolple listen to hip hop and rap, and all of those people are trained in armed conflict, still want to make that assertion?
And many over here stateside, also do the same thing, so that
weak minded theory don't hold water, the way I see it.

And we just lost James Brown (the grandfather of soul) I think
he started it all, with his fancy footwork, pompadour hair style,
and 360 degree turns on stage, he put on quite a show.
His life wasn't too great, but he did what he could, thats all any of us can do.

So, in conclusion, I'm not dissing hip hop and rap, but I will say
most of these musicians could do more research in their
music to help them develop a more meaningful and profound
career as a musician, rap artist or not.

Thats my message, good luck

I personally hate rappers or hip hop artists..whatever you wanna call them such as Akon and 50 cent because I think that their music is insulting and demeaning to women. I never though of rap as music for low-class or weak minded ppl though. actually I've never really heared alot of ppl say that about this type of music before. I hear them say alot of more harsh stuff about Emo music though or atleast thats what some ppl call it. Bands such as My Chemical Romance being dissed for being who they are..it's just pathetic and it actually hurt's quite a bit coz I love their music and I don't believe or agree with a single word alot of haters say about them and so I understand how u feel about ppl trashing the kind of music u love.

There's no real right or wrong in music, but if people dislike themes or subjects of some music, they generally stereotype the whole genre. Don't listen to them. I don't like rap, but I'm not any better for liking rock and pop-punk, or if I liked pop or anything else.

because it is really not music. There is very little singing, no guitar work.....and most "songs" are sampled from other artists. It Does however contain some of the best modern POETRY.

You see, It really irritates me when people say stuff like that. I mean we don't assume ish like that when they listen to country or punk. We don't assume they are hillbillies && suicidial emo punks..you know.

They wouldn't want people judging them by the music they listen to...so they shouldn't judge others.
