I am wondering because I am not sure if the movies were owned or rented by her. Would it make a difference?

No, it is illegal but do you really care? A lot of people do it and it was a gift from your daughter.

yes, if they were rented they werent hers and it would be stealing, they are illegal.

its only illegal if she SOLD them to you. she didnt make any money off of them, so they are not illegal.
