Yes they are the same and it's up to you to choose which you want to use. They are used to cite information within the text of an essay. For instance:

Peopel all over the world enjoy the Harry Potter books. They are the number one seller for juvinile fiction. (Right there is where you would add a foot/end note. you put the number of the note up there. Most word perfect or other writing programs keep track of the numbers automatically. Then if you chose footnote the identical number would appear at the bottom. You add your cite info there. In the example I gave the info would be "Taken from Scholastic website on 12/25/06 or something like that.)

When choosing which to use, the best way is to figure out how many pages your report has to be. Footnotes take up more page space.

A footnote is a note of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or document. Endnotes are collected together at the end of the chapter or at the end of the work, all in one page. Endnotes are generally harder to read than footnotes, as moving back and forth between the main text and the endnotes takes additional time and effort. Footnotes are most often used for short documents, but don't overuse them. It's better to keep them to a minimum. In summary: if you only need to explain one or two things briefly, use footnotes; if you find yourself having to add more than 5 notes (give or take), then you may want to consider doing endnotes and just put them all together in one page at the end. In my opinion, stick with footnotes (unless you're writing a book!). Hope this helps! Merry X-mas!

The purpose of a bibliography is to be able to quickly reference the source material used in your essay. Footnotes are placed on the page where the reference is made, endnotes are used at the end of the chapter. So making use of either of those entails reading the whole essay. Bibliographies, on the other hand, have reference material indexed in alphabetical order, and give a complete overview of the research involved in the paper. Does that help?

A "footnote" is put at the bottom of the page where the source was cited. An "end note" appears in a list at the end of the paper which lists the sources you cited in the order in which they were cited. Use a good manual such as the MLA Manual for Writing Research Papers, and you will receive all the examples and explanations of how to writs a footnote and or end note correctly. Good luck!

I think you are supposed to use Microsoft Word to do it.

Go to Insert -> AutoText -> Header and Footer
