I bought my husband a refurbished PSP for Christmas (I know mistake one) Anyhow when we put the games or movies in the machine it doesn't do anything and the UMD icon isn't there. Is there a setting we missed?
Any help would be appreciated.

If the UMB icon is not there then it sounds like it may be broken. My suggestion is to first try to update to the latest firmware by going to http://www.us.playstation.com/psp/downloads/systemupdate
If after ensuring you have the latest software update things still don't work then you probably got ripped and you should contact the place you bought it from to get a refund. If they won't give you a refund then contact your Credit Card company, or PayPal on how to dispute charges.
