Are you in Canada? The PS3 retails for $500 for the 20GB version, $600 for the 60GB/WiFi version. Now finding them at retail price is very hard, but actually not impossible, if one is lucky enough--the demand for PS3 has dropped significantly in reaction to its initial short supply. I bought mine a couple weeks ago just by strolling into a Blockbuster/Gamerush and asking them if they had any.

Blu-ray players are like $600-$900 alone but I guess PS3 got a deal on them or else they would be loseing money. So its the blu-ray thats got it up so high. PS2s were $750 the first 3 months or so.
PS3 will drop within 1-2 years. In 5 years a PS3 will be worth like $300-400

Probably not for a long time. And yes, blurays cost more, but Sony is actually losing some money on each system and hoping to make up for it with game sales.
Take a look at XBOX 360... it's been a year and prices still haven't gone down. Don't look for the PS3 price to change for a few years.
