Rosario Dawson (Mimi) and Tracie Thoms (Joanne) replaced Daphine Rubin-Vega and Fredi Walker, respectively, for the movie version of Rent. Jesse L. Martin (Collins), Wilson Jermaine Herendia (Angel), Adam Pascal (Roger), Idina Menzel (Maureen), Anthony Rapp (Mark). and Taye Diggs (Benny) were all part of the Original Broadway Cast in 1996 (also referred to as the "OBC"). Anthony Rapp (Mark) was also part of the original workshop for Rent at New York Theater Workshop.

The guy who played Collins in the movie is named Jesse L. Martin. He stars in Law & Order (TV) and was also in Ally McBeal. I believe he was the original Broadway actor in Rent, however.
Rosario Dawson played Mimi in the movie and was not in any of the stage casts. I thought she did a great job though! :)

Rosario Dawson (Mimi) and Tracie Thoms (Joanne) were new - all the rest of the leads were in the original Broadway production (which is why, LOL, they're all too old for the show, no matter how good they are!)
