As other have said you can just buy the box. Let's try to make the best of things until you can do that. Try to clean up your current system.

If you are running XP...

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!

Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. Both can be found by following the same path.

Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup after that finishes do a disk defrag.

Yes. The box as you call it is called a CPU or central processing Unit. Some call it the Tower. You can purchase a replacement CPU from any computer shop, or from www.dell.com.au if you want to buy on the net.(remove the au if you are not in Australia) The Dell site has a list that you just tick the box next to the goods you want to purchase and then at the end of the form is displayed the total price. You can pay the bill with your plastic, and you get the new computer by mail or courier. Then just plug it in and away you go.... Easy. Have fun!

Millions of people just purchase the Central Processing Unit, or CPU box.

It contains the main or motherboard, with processor, heatsink, fan, RAM memory, and the drives and media storage parts, like CD and DVD rom drives.

Look in the Sunday paper for the sales, most of which might include a keyboard and mouse, but offer the monitor as an extra priced device.

Also, purchase of a 'barebones' computer requires some more parts like the memory, and the drives, before it works, so you would avoid them if you don't have knowledge about computer building.

Online, I like to look at http://newegg.com http://pricewatch.com http://walmart.com and be careful to get a full functioning system!

Then, you might contact us, or write here, to ask how to transfer your files that you want to use on the new computer, from the old one.

I would put http://pclinuxos.com on the old one, AFTER you transfer the files, because then, it would run upto 50X faster, plus have the 5500 FREE games, programs, etc. and would be a learning platform! A simple KVM switch would allow BOTH to run on one keyboard, mouse, and monitor!

KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switches start at about $12.00 online. ( http://computergate.com or http://tigerdirect.com or at http://pricewatch.com )

Sure you can. My computer finally went kablooey on me about two years ago, and I had a perfectly good monitor mouse and keyboard. So I went to BestBuy and bought just the tower. I think it cost me about $250 or thereabouts.

Depending on what you want to spend, you can really get into some serious bucks if you decide to get huge power. It is all in what your use of the computer is for, as to how much you want to spend.

I chose BestBuy because they had the best price at the time, but shop around because there are some bargains out there.

Yes, you can get a system box, reasonably equipped today for about $500. Yes, you can go crazy and spend $5000 on a gamer's dream unit, but for normal humans you can get a fast 2Ghz+ CPU, larger 1G memory and 300G of disk or so for $500-600 today. Look for a unit with SERVICE /support included if at all possible.
