Why is it that you don't support welfare? But you support the war in Iraq? Welfare helps millions of needy people especialy children. The war in Iraq dosen't help any one but big oil and the military industrial complex.

What moral values does the republican party have that the dems don't? Dosen't helping the needy and supporting the middle class seem like a pretty good moral value? I don't see how starting a preemtive war is a good moral value. If you don't like abortion or gay marrage don't have one. Live and let live. I thought freedom was what this country was about. Why do you choose to focus on two issues. When there are so many other "moral issues" to complain about.

What makes you a christian? I hear so many neo-cons talking about how they have deep faith and that is why they are republican. Sense when is killing people a christian value. Isn't helping out your neighbor a central part of christianity. Isn't fighting for equality and justice a more chritstian cause?

First off, who said neo cons don’t support the idea of welfare? As a conservative I support the idea of a country having a safety net for those that truly need it for the bare minimums and for the shortest amount of time to get you self supporting. What I don’t support is help that makes you further dependent rather than independence which is tantamount to enslavement.

To believe that the war in Iraq was solely over oil and helps no one but big oil and the military industrial complex shows your own naivety. There are several hundred thousand dead people in Iraq that would disagree that they could not have been helped. There are also tens of thousands that would most likely have died under the sham of food for oil that would disagree with you. The fact is the world runs on oil and it is therefore in your (and everyone else’s) own best interest to make sure it is available if you in fact believe that is what the war is and was about. You like your car (or your family’s) and the freedom it provides? How about public transportation? They run on oil. How about that computer you used to post your question, your tennis shoes or all the items made with and from plastic? All are made from oil. If you don’t believe that oil (or by extension a war over it) helps anyone, be a person of your convictions and give up all modern conveniences that are petroleum based.

There are many moral values the Republicans espouse that are important to me that the Democrats do not hold. An immutable sense of right and wrong, the idea that nascent life has value and that liberty is more important than equality are just a few. Helping the truly needy is a very moral value, however, the idea of welfare is to cover the bare necessities, not to redistribute wealth and create equality of standard. I can accept that I don’t need to have an abortion or gay marriage but can you accept that those are legislative issues and not issues for the court to decide and allow the people to vote their collective conscience on the issues and live with the outcome? Live and let live is a nice platitude and works in the micro, but not the macro. Freedom is what this country is about but unfettered freedom, freedom without rules and responsibility, is anarchy. I don’t see the conservatives focusing on only two issues nor do I see the Left focusing on paramount moral issues.

What makes one a Christian is in fact what you hear people talk about and that is faith. What makes you a good Christian is what you choose to do with that faith and how you act and share it. Even God makes room for unintended killing and the commandment is not thou shalt not kill as is often cited; the actual translation of the original Hebrew is you shall not murder. No, helping your neighbor is not a central part of Christianity and while we are asked to love them and to help the less fortunate, how we do that (or not) is a matter of personal choice. Equality is an egalitarian construct and justice is a social construct.

Wow! You've changed my mind! OK lets start with returning Saddam to power. We will throw all of those hundreds of thousands of bodies back into their mass graves and tell the ninety percent of of the country who are Shi'ite that they are once again third class citizens subject to murder, torture and the rest.

Next we legalize all abortion and gay marriage. Why stop there? Legalize rape as well. If you don't like rape than don't rape anyone. Live and let live as long as you don't mean a eight month old fetus(baby)

Finally welfare. If you want it come and get it!Why work when you can have free money? I'm sure unemployment hitting historic lows when welfare reform was enacted was just a big coincidence.Right?

What makes me a Christian?Well my belief that Jesus was the Messiah.Duh.

Welfare is the 20th and 21st century equivalent of slavery. It destroyed Black families by making it financially counterproductive to be married when you could be receiving a welfare check instead. It has made families dependent on the government for their survival and has drained the motivation out of millions to try to succeed because it is easier to let the nanny state support them. Welfare assumes that certain people are incapable of achieving anything on their own. What is more bigoted than such assumptions?

I'll try to address your questons one by one. You need to know the details of issues, not just make sweeping generalities to understand these issues.

Welfare is fine as long as it is short term, and doesn't spawn dependence on government. Government policy should always look to create self reliance rather than dependence on government. Helping someone who is blind or severely disabled, isn't welfare. Conservatives are in favor of welfare reform, reform that requires work of the able bodied. Even if it is just picking up litter. The able bodied should never just collect a check each month and do nothing for it in return.

The war in Iraq isn't finished, but the long term goal is to bring democracy and freedom to millions of people, not just in Iraq but in the entire middle east. Most people in the middle east live in dictatorships that don't respect human rights at all, particularly the rights of women who are treated like dogs. Apparently that is against the values of liberals, but conservatives are for it. Liberals used to be in favor of freedom from tyranny, but they apparently no longer are.

Republicans believe that abortion is akin to murder as it is taking of a human life. In the US abortion has simply become a form of birth control. I belive that only 2% of abortions are related to rape incest or the life of the mother, so I'm OK with allowing it in the circumstances as it would dramatically cut down on the horrible tragedy of abortion. Many democrats support abortion on demand up until and including the day of delivery. Many are even against parental notification, allowing a 13 year old to have an abortion without her parents knowing about it. That is wrong.

We are a country of laws, not a do whatever you want country. The vast majority of americans are against gay marriage and believe it is unnatural and immoral and should not be permitted by law.

Conservatives believe that religion should be welcome in the public square, not shunned. We believe that parents should choose what schools their kids go to, not the government. Money should follow the student, not the school, and if parents want to send their kids to a catholic school with the money they get that should be fine, and not considered unconstitutional. I don't see conservatives as complainers as you state, just people with real ideas to make this country better.

I don't think most conservatives are focused on only two issues. Perhaps you can cite a poll that supports that allegation.

You're a Christian if you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. You're a good Christian if you live your life in accordance with His teachings. Killing people for no reason is not a Christian value. Liberating millions from tyranny is. Incidentally, most of the killing in Iraq now is Muslims killing other Muslims, not Christians killing innocent civilians.

I agree, helping the less fortunate is a central value of Christianity and that is why conservatives donate a lot more time and money to charity than liberals. Liberals believe helping the less fortunate is the job of government, not private charities or individuals. I don't think that is a Christian value.

Fighting for equality and justice is exactly what we're doing in the middle east. Conservatives are actually willing to fight for those things, liberals apparently aren't. They just like to talk about them and criticize those who are actually doing the fighting.

I hope I answered your questions. I don't suspect you'll agree with me, but I think I addressed your questions from a conservative viewpoint per your request.

Learn what a Neocon is. Many neocons aren't Christian. Opposition to welfare is not a specific Neocon position.
