The chemical formula for cellular resp. is C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy

Algae perform photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight (energy) -> C6H12O6 + 6O2

This pair of reactions explains the imperative relationship between plants and animals! The plant 'waste' is reactant for cell resp. (sugar = energy, O2 for complete 'burning' of that sugar for ATP production) and cell resp product of CO2 and H2O are reactants needed for plants! Awesome!!!!

In photosynthesis, oxygen is a waste product. That is, when carbon dioxide is converted into carbohydrates by photosynthetic organisms, oxygen is released. Aerobic organisms then convert carbohydrates back into carbon dioxide by reacting them with oxygen to produce CO2 and water. I think if you just google "photosynthesis respiration oxygen" you'll probably find some diagrams that would illustrate this.
