What is the best thing to use for polishing silver trays and serving dishes if I don't have any silver polish at hand in the meantime?

I have made a paste out of baking soda and water and polished my silver jewelry with it and it worked well. Just buff well and get it all off.

baking soda and toothpaste, apply to clean trays, let dry and with soft clean cloth buffff!
