20 years. Source has been what I always heard in the past. Think of it this way. People are more likely to spawn at 20 as opposed to 10 years of age.

Generation (From the Greek γιγνμαι), also known as procreation, is the act of producing offspring. A generation can also be a stage or degree in a succession of natural descent as a grandfather, a father, and the father's son comprise three generations.

With this explanation, I think 30 years is a generation.

I guess it depends on how you use the term. When you're grouping people together into identifiable "generations" (i.e. "Generation X," "Baby Boomers," etc.), you'll find that there's been a new distinct group every five to ten years. But if you're talking about succeeding sets of generations within a family, you'll probably find the dividing lines at about 20-30 years, when the kids of one generation grow up to have kids of their own.

Traditionally, it was thought of as 20 years.....

In many cases however, it has grown to much longer periods...

In short, it is the age that people have kids.......

In my family, there are only 3 generations to a century, so, a generation is, on average, somewhere around 34 years.......

Namaste, and Happy Holidays,
