Well, I think that the twelve days of Christmas are the days that are before Christmas leading up to the birth of Christ. Maybe it is the 12 days that Joeseph and Mary traveled in. I am not so sure.

its the days between christmas and epiphany
starts dec 25 and ends on jan 5. epiphany is jan 6. the times can vary a little from culture to culture. some cultures the first day of christmas is the 26 and the 12th day is on jan 6. if in the eastern orthodox, it is from the 7th to the 19th. the 19th being epiphany.
epiphany is the celebration of the magi visiting Christ, or the revealing of Christ to them.
