Ethiopian warplanes attacked two Islamist-held airfields in Somalia on Monday, witnesses said, in the most dramatic strikes yet of a war threatening to engulf the Horn of Africa.

The attacks -- one on the capital Mogadishu -- came hours after neighbouring Ethiopia formally declared war, saying it was protecting its sovereignty against a movement run by terrorists.

The Somalia Islamic Courts Council's (SICC) Web site hailed "mujahideen" troops who, it said, chanted passages from the Koran as they went into battle against militarily superior Ethiopian "crusaders".

Is this war a crusade?

Government Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi told Reuters 8,000 foreign fighters had poured into Somalia to back the SICC. He agreed with a recent U.S. accusation that the movement's top ranks were controlled by al Qaeda terrorists.

They believe they are fighting to preserve their religion. Reciting passages from the Koran as they go into battle prepares their spirit for the likely trip to see Al'lah. I would imagine, like the Christian knights of old, they feel that reciting scripture lends them strength for the battle.
No, this war is not a crusade. That is a term Muslims use to describe their most hated enemies. This dates back to the real crusades.

A lot of people pray as they go into battle. I know I did. You pray more when the odds are against you, as it appears to be against the Muslims in this situation. Reciting passages from the Koran is reasonable, as I've known many Christian soldiers to recite Bible passages under similar circumstances.

For the same reason a christian would pray going into battle Surely you can`t be so mean minded to grudge them that .It seems like every one is allowed to play the terrorist card now as the explanation for attacking another country, and surprise surprise who`s in the background stirring up trouble .

So that's what Ethiopia did with all the Live Aid money.
Maybe the Somalians chant because they can't sing very well,?
I'm serious. They are hardly a bunch of Leonas.
