Is JK Rowling paying her respects to Harry and Hermione in the Magic Theatre of Herman Hesse's 'Steppenwolf'? (1927, Fischer Verlag, Berlin). 'Born To Be Wild' etc.

I wrote an extensive blog post about this over at Hippobones.blogspot.com, noting similarities between Hesse and Rowling based on many of Hesse's works. There is no doubt the similarities are there and there are far too many to be coincidences. For example, Demian has the Mark of Cain on his forehead, so does Harry Potter. Or in Siddhartha, Siddhartha uses the exact equivalent of the Imperious Curse on the leader of the ascetic. Or In Wagner and Klein there is a strong psychic rapport between Klein and his darker self Wagner, ie Harry and Valdemort. There are MANY more examples, including Dobby almost to a T.

I enjoyed 'Steppenwolf' like all Herman Hesse books but I have never read Harry Potter and doubt I ever will.

JKR has been accused of 'borrowing' ideas from many different sources including the lord of the rings. It's possible that she got some inspiration from this source but i have to admit it's not one that i'm familiar with.
