it is exactly what it says it is. its the nail "growing inward" into the toe. normally happens when you cut the nail to low and rip it at the edges. the edges have a chance to grown inward instead of upward.

if it goes untreated it will begin to swell, puss up, etc. if you have one and you don't dig it out yourself....you DON'T want to know or see what the doctor will do to get it out.

an ingrown toenail occurs when the nail grows into the skin. It causes the overlap.

The nail grows inward. People who are more prone to it are people with round toes and people who cut their nails at an angle on the ends instead of cutting it straight.

I have one it can be either or, my nail grows into the skin, I do know this ,it is painful as hell! Make sure the nail is always clipped straight across.
