You can kill them with corn meal, beer, salt, or coffee grounds. There are more ways listed on the following site and says why they work too.

if you are like me and have a big yard full of slugs and snails- you don't want people to think your a lush buying all that beer to kill them off- not to mention the opossums love it!! I bought some bait from gardens alive and it worked great!!! I still see a few here and there but I had soooo many you could not avoid stepping on them after a light rain-- the site is www.gardensalive.com I have also put the slugs in a gallon container with some water for several weeks pu- could have sold it to fear factor!- and poured it in the area they liked to feed the most- it is said they do not like to eat in a grave yard!

indeed salt is good. but i guess that if you introduce the natural predator of slug into the environnement, that'll help too... i dont know what it is for slugs, but you could try asking a gardener

pour some beer in a shallow pan. The slugs will go in and drown
