To express the fraction a/b, where a > b and a,b are positive integers as c d/b,
c= floor(a/b), where floor is the integer parts without the fraction.
For example, floor(2.2) = 2.
d = a -b*c
Here 17/3 = floor (17/3) +(17-3*5)/3 = 5+2/3
so 17/3 = 5 2/3

the way u solve this is you divide the denomenator (the bottom) into the numerator (the top). 3 goes into 17 how many times?
5 times (3 x 5 = 15) and then you are left with 2 extra. so you take the "2" and put it as the numerator (the top of the fraction) and the origional denomenator stays -- so the fraction part is 2/3. and the whole number is 5.
so you have 5 and 2/3.
