I'm sorry you have to work. But do a good job and you will be rewarded.

I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't get vacations or holidays...in fact, I'm on call 24-7. As hectic as things were here last night, I could have used a few hours of working in a store....I've done it before at Christmas, it's no biggie compared to trying to explain to a 2 year old that the cookies and milk are for Santa, while his 8 year old sister insists that we leave him some Immodium AD so he won't get the trots (Santa, not her brother). To top that off, my six year old was playing with the nativity scene as though they were a bunch of action figures ("Take that, Balthazar"!). I had to handle all this while my husband was in town looking for an open store to get batteries for all the noisy toys...kids....you gotta love 'em.
I AM thankful, though, for the folks who were working on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, for those of us who forgot those few "essentials" (particularly my husband, who didn't pick up that extra pack of cigs...otherwise, the family would have to deal with an old grump having a nicotine fit).

Since you've asked this question, it got me curious -- where do you work? If you have time, please go to the "pencil" icon under your question and click "Add Details". :) Thanks! (I'm trying to guess if you work for a hospital, a vet clinic, a police department, a towing company, starbucks, a fast food restaurant, a daily newspaper, etc.) Whatever it is, at least you get DOUBLE time pay, right? :D
Anyway, as for me, I do NOT have to work Christmas Day (today), nor did I have to work Thanksgiving Day. And I don't have to work New Year's Day either. HOWEVER, I *did* unfortunately have to work on "Black Friday", the day after Thanksgiving, I *did* have to work yesterday, Christmas Eve Day, and I *do* have to work tomorrow, the day after Christmas. (Ugh) So I guess I'm luckier than some folks :) but unluckier than others. :(
BTW, I work in a store that sells party supplies, along with gifts, toys, games, cards, stationery, candles, stickers, balloons and candy. (We are having a big 80% post-Christmas clearance on all holiday-themed stuff).

My husband (fireman) has to work today and it sucks. Until Friday, I worked in an emergency room & have worked every Christmas for the last 6 years...no fun. Hopefully someday you won't have to work on Christmas anymore.

I work as an internet security administrator so we monitor networks 24x7. I was the only one not salary and without kids at home waiting for me so I actually volunteer because it's only 7 am - 3 pm and i'll still be able to make my christmas party at night.

The people running the radio and TV stations, the police, firefighters, EMS crews, doctors, nurses, soldiers, convenience store clerks, fast food crews.
Oh, and I believe there's even an NFL game today. GOOD GRIEF. At least the NHL has a Christmas break.

Thankfully, not me. I spent too many years working holidays. I'm retired now.
Hopefully people you deal with today will be nice and not grumpy.
