is it possible to create a company that no one knows who owns it? are there adult companies out there like that? i know that what stops a lot of people from making money by creating an adult film company is the fact that this will follow them for the rest of their lives when getting a job or anythign like that.

Whether you're setting up an s-corporation or a limited liability partnership, you'll have to file some appropriate forms in your state for both tax and liability reasons. Therefore, people could theoretically do a search with your state's offices and find your name if they knew where to look. That said, nobody's going to go search through adult company listings to see if you're the owner unless you tell them.

If it's a public company, you have to file annual financial reports, which must include management and ownership detail. Those can be found in complete detail on the Securities and Exchange Commission's website (edgar.sec.gov), so do it without going public or they can reverse search and find your name that way.

Long answer short, get any required financing through private sources and incorporate as an LLC, LLP, or S-Corporation (Don't register as a C-Corporation, due to reporting requirements) and you're beyond the reach of 99% of employer's screening nets.

Then all you have to worry about is the gap that will appear betweeen legitimate jobs on your resume. For that, I'd recommend simultaneously forming a separate LLP and starting a consulting business. That business can then receive compensation as a cross-charge from your other business (and other firms, as you're able) thus giving you a legitimate consulting business on your resume and enhancing it rather than creating a risky gap.

Happy Holidays!

Fortunately it can't be done. Owners are offering a product or service to the general public. Along with that endeavor comes responsibilities and liabilities. If the owner was unknown, there would be no one to sue.

In addition, you would need an EIN (Employer Identification Number) or in some cases, a Social Security Number, either way, you would have to disclose your identity.

If the subject ever comes up in an interview, or anything, simply state that you were in charge of a film production company engaged in making "educational films".

If you incorporate out of the state of Delaware I believe you can own an annonymous company. It doesnt matter what state you live in you can have the company based out of another state.
