An accent is a description of they way by which you speak. If you speak, then you have an accent. You don't have more or less of an accent than others who speak, although your accent might be different than theirs.

Being from Missouri, a place where many people in broadcasting go to lose their accents (except for the Ozarks where they do have a pretty thick twang), I would have to say people from the northeast, and in particular Boston have the thickest accents, even more so than most Texans (in my opinion the thickest of southern type accents). I base all of this on the fact that it's harder for me to tell what the heck a person from New York City or Boston is saying than a Texan. The people with the least accent would be people form the northwest and rocky mountain regions.

That is a VERY subjective question.
I am from Maine and no one in Maine has an accent (my opinion) - but when I travel, everyone else seems to have an accent - from New York to California to the South.
And, ironically enough, they all tend to think I have an accent!

lousiana. Those cajn' folks have a southern accent with french overtones, and a mixed language to boot. Texas poor folk speaking TexMex come in a close second. long Islanders have it pretty thick, to the uninitiated
