You can have any kind of a Christmas -- or even NO Christmas -- that you wish.
When someone wishes you a Merry Christmas, you can smile at them and say, "Have a nice day!" Or "Happy holidays!" Or "Bah! Humbug!" Or nothing. Presumably, you're living in the "free" world where you won't be punished for how you feel.
Hope that 2007 is everything you want it to be!

Yes, absolutely. Christmas being a federal holiday, the government can specify that said holiday must be merry. If you fail to have a Merry Christmas, you can be indicted as a co-conspirator with Ebenezer Scrooge.

No. But you have a civic duty to let others do so without moaning at them and telling them they're in violation of guidelines when they wish each other a Happy Christmas. And just because your growl is not impressing anyone, you're getting a cyber-hug and Happy Christmas again!!! xx

No, it's not a civic duty. Have a good one anyway.

You don't HAVE to do anything, but just try being nice one day out of the year.
