Information warfare involves the use of propaganda, pamphlets, deliberate use of false or misleading information and sometimes true information, and the use of and attacks agains computers and other information systems. It can also involve the use of deliberately jamming communications or, like the Voice of America broadcasts, transmitting one sides point of view over that of another (like the former Soviet Union). Conventional warfare involves bombs, bullets, jets, missiles, etc. Information warfare tends to be a lot less bloody.

Let's take a high school for example. Let's say two teenage girls are feuding. Instead of doing a boyish thing like throw punches, they start to spread ugly rumors about each other in the school. The gossip hurts both of them, but the weaker girl falters first and breaks down crying, promising never to go back to the school again. On the other side are two boys who hate each other because of envy and jealousy. Lo and behold, after school they get into a fistfight. One of the boys ends up with a broken nose and a black eye. That's the difference between informational and conventional warfare.
