Not really in the Raleigh area but in the mountains like Asheville or Boone you'll see snow in throughout the winter.

I'm an 7th generation native, although I live in Texas now I lived there 32 years. There are 2 main ski resorts in the Appalachian Mountains where it does snow in Winter. When there is not quite enough, they blow more with a machine. It snows here and there all over the other parts of NC, but it is random and never certain where it will be. There are far more ice storms (freezing rain, sleet, black ice) than snow in most parts of NC. Check out the websites for the NC ski resorts. The mountains are beautiful. The Grove Park Inn in Asheville is not a ski resort, but it is extraordinary. The Biltmore Estate nearby is a wonderful place to visit as well. Try looking at Hawksnest Ski Resort, Appalachian Ski Resort, or Ski Beech Resort. If you don't ski you can go snow "tubing". They rent black intertubes and you can slide down in them. It's fun.

I remember it had snowed a couple of years ago in the Raleigh Durham area. They got an inch of snow and the city was paralyzed.
