Assuming not everyone practices Christianity, and then there are the people who have no religion at all. What about people who just want to be able to go about their daily business? Should everything close down for a christian holiday? Nothing closes down for Rash Hashana. What do you think?

There may be laws against businesses opening on Christmas day, as it's a public holiday, it depends where you live. The fact remains that Christmas isn't a purely Christian holiday, and many non-Christians still observe it. If there was a way to have businesses open on Christmas day I'm sure Walmart and Starbucks will come up with it sooner or later.

Christmas is a national Holiday to celebrate the birth of Christ. Like it or not, that is what they holiday is.

Now, you want to go about your daily business... go ahead ... but the rest of America will be taking a holiday today and respecting that it is Jesus' birthday.

So I'm sure you didn't open any presents today or this season right? WHY would you receive presents? You just want it to be a normal day. Did you get a paid holiday today? You shouldn't do that ... go in tomorrow and tell your boss to take back your holiday pay ... or at very least, work an extra day for free.

Geez.

Christians are not the only people who celebrate christmas. Not everyone in the US is christian, but 90% of U.S. citizens celebrate christmas. If only 10% of people are out on Christmas then there would be little reason for stores to stay open

I'm not a Christian, and I think that places should be closed on Christmas. it is a holiday celebrated by the majority of Americans. Even I exchange presents and enjoy a feast even though I do not celebrate the religious aspects of it.

Most stores do not have enough non-Christian employees to keep a store open.

Has it gotten so bad that we can't go one day without shopping?! Plan ahead, take a day off, and relax.

Obviously some things have to stay open - police, fire, hospitals, some pharmacies and gas stations. I'm talking about strictly retail. Food, clothes, movie theaters, and such. One should be able to plan ahead so that they can go one day without food shopping.

The majority however DO celebrate Christmas to some degree, hence the majority of people don't want to work on Christmas and most places will be closed.

I have sold scrap metal to Jewish places and they close down on their holidays.. No matter what your belief just think of it as a day to spend with your family. If you don't have one go to a sports bar and watch football with your buddies.
