There is only one meaning, it is just how you use it and apply it. How one thing is in relation to another. Someone may have 'contrasting' opinions. Meaning, those opinions stand out/apart from each other. "There is too much 'contrast' in the picture on the TV". Meaning, the darker objects stand out far too much to the lighter ones (or too little contrast, meaning, none of the objects stand out from each other - bland). Basically, it means showing the relative difference between two things that are in relation (or being related to).

Contrasting highlights the differences between two or more things. It is often paired with compare, which is to find the similarities among things.

in this context it means look at the 2 or more pieces of work and see how they are similar/alike
sorry if this doesn't answer your question but its not very clear what you are asking to be honest

Ask for a dictionary for next Christmas. They are quite usefull you know, they haven't been around that long mind you....Only about "2000 YEARS!" So you may have trouble finding a copy. You might try W H Smith or even Wilkinsons (England) as i've heard these may be a good place to start searching for this new "Elusive" medium. Good look in your quest...It could be tough for you but will be worth it in the end i am sure!
