I cannot agree that they are selfish. I think sometime people hit a point of hopelessness and that is usually a decision they come to under their period of depression. Then after they have made that decision they see their life improve because they have found a way out of their hopeless situation albeit a bad way. And in fact to those around them they may even seem to be out of their depressed state
So suicide to them sets and end to their problems they can see an end where before they could not see any.
Are they really selfish, fact is you would not call someone lazy for being a narcoleptic because there is something wrong with them so with mental and psychological issues too. They just did not get the help they needed.
Plus bear in mind that many things are factors that lead a person to suicide. Their personality, abuse, bad parenting, repeated failures, divorce, high expectancy and demands made on them.
Several people overcome these problems and many others don't resort to suicide but in turn they might continue their abuse to other and continue the cycle. A suicide victim may not want to continue and don't know how to get help because the brain is just too overloaded to think clearly

Yes and just misinformed. They think that they are the body and mind and if they take their life they will end suffering. The thing is it only increases ones suffering. We are not these bodies, ie; race, color, religion, nationality, senses, intelligence, job, etc. WE are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul. We never die only the body dies. If one takes their own life they become a ghost for at least as long as their actual death was supposed to be but generally longer. They suffer incessantly the misery they experienced at the time of death. It is a very bad situation for the living entity. Go to krishnaculture. for complete details on the universal knowledge of Vedic culture and what is the ultimate goal of human life. etc.Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada

I would call them people so lost in depression that all experience lacks anything that even vaguely resembles what the healthy call pleasure. For them, in most cases, to not be has become, in their reduced capacity, a better alternative. They have lost the ability to enjoy the world, made worse by the fact that at one time they may have.It has never been a place I traveled to although I have been depressed. And really just a stab at what is going on in the minds of people that I hope I can never truly experience. Be well.

I cannot put myself in that position, but people who go through with suicide seem to only think of themselves and what they feel at the time. The ones left behind that love and care for them go through hell - I know that much. Very sad situation and happens to frequently these days.

Self-absorbed certainly. They think about themselves constantly. Does that mean that they don't care about others, not neccessarily.
I went through a bad period, and for a very very very very brief moment contemplated ending things, but at the same time anybody who asked for anything got it. So no, suicidal people are not necessarily selfish, at least not in the common usage of the word.
One more thing, if they take somebody with them, such as a child, then yes they are selfish.

Absolutely, especially those that leave kids behind.
They are taking an easy out, and leaving their loved ones behind to deal with the grief and guilt.
The problem can never be that bad...
There is one exception, if they are struggling with being a child molester or murderer, and they are contemplating suicide so they don't hurt any more kids or people... well then by all means go for it!

Sometimes people get so depressed and desparate to get out of their pain that they can't see anything else. Many people are reaching out for help and think that they'll be found before it's too late and unfortunately, are not discovered in time. It's not for us to judge others. All we can do is be there for each other and look for any subtle signs in those we love that indicates that they may be depressed or thinking about hurting themselves.

YES! Maybe they are depressed and need help but suicide is the ultimate selfish act in my opinion.

Many would argue that this is the case, that instead of confronting their problems, suicidal people decide to create tragedy that will affect everyone around them. However, as this is often the aim of suicide (attention after death), maybe those people are thinking of themselves as victims, even invisible people. Their attitudes are dangerous and bizarre sometimes. Maybe some of them are under the impression that death will bring them closer to what they want... freedom.

Yes, unless it is in the defense of others but that would be a sacrifice and not suicide. Suicide is inherently selfish since your putting your wants and needs over those who love you. Someone who commits suicide doesn't hurt only themselves.
