I only know of unicellular organism that requires other stuffs such as decayed material to survive. Would you consider Euglena as an answer?

the social amoeba perhaps? Dictyostelium discoideum. the really weird one which exists as a single cell organism until it gets together with a whole bunch of other ones to make a fruiting body with a stalk and spores on the top? i couldnt find a proper movie of it doing its thing, but theres some pictures here --->
