You can't simply compare AMD to Intel. They both make various microprocessors. You have to compare products. Such as an Intel Centrino with a corresponding AMD product.

Nope. Both AMD and Intel chips would work fine with Vista. There is nothing mysterious about Vista. It's just another WIN based Operating System that does things differently----another marketing ploy by Microsoft to sell more software since it's WIN XP sales have dwindled.
