Yesterday, I wished numerous people a Merry Christmas in response to their saying "Happy Holidays" Yesterday was Christmas Eve and this greeting was appropriate. I got incredulous looks from most.

someone explained to me that we must encompass all the religions that have holidays during this season. Even the Muslims have the Ead next Saturday. I promised to come back to wish these Muslims a happy Ead wnen it is their holiday, but now it is Christmas. Was my action criminal?

No. You should listen to your heart.

No, it wasn't. It is Christmas and we can wish Christian people a Merry Christmas. If you know that someone is not a Christian it would be inappropriate, but if you don't know, then go ahead and say it. If someone is offended who isn't Christian or doesn't celebrate Christmas, they will let you know, but you shouldn't take it personally. Probably most people won't be offended.

Enjoy your Christmas!
