Is the room broken up (multiple rooms) or one open space?
If it is broken up it may involve moving the dehumidifier around to treat all the areas.
First and foremost try to eliminate as many contributing sources. These can be as simple as being sure to run an exhaust fan in bathrooms when showering/bathing. Turning a vented range exhaust hood on during cooking activities. Check outside for any gutters or grading that is not diverting water away from your home.
Dehumidifiers typically are rated in pints as far as capacity of the unit.
A unit of 75 pint capacity should be adaquate unless you have severe dampness such as a leaky basement. Be sure that you get one that can be adapted to a drain hose to save the task of emptying the tank. The hose can be directed to a floor drain or if not available could have hose to a sink or tub with unit on a table above discharge point.
Ultimately try and maintain a level of 30-50% humidity. Too low will lead to scratchy throats and static electricity, too high can lead to mold growth.
Good Luck.

The best one is really going to be the best one for you. My house is 1500 square feet and I have a Holmes dehumidifier, but it was the features that made it the best for me.
It has a reservoir that will hold 25 pints of water. In the summertime, I dump it out twice per day (or it will shut off when the water level reaches the sensor).
My dehumidifier is also Energy Star-rated which was important to me, since it was going to be running all the time.
I also wanted one that operated somewhat quietly since it was going to be in a common area in our home. If I had a basement, that wouldn't have mattered.

Aprilaire makes several good units. Models 550 will do the job for 1300 sq feet house. You can buy them from a HVAC company and have them install it properly.
Once the humidifier is installed and running you can lower your thermostat by 2-3 degrees. The heat will feel the same because it is now 'warm moist' heat.

Take hot showers, but don't exhuast the air. The mosture will spread around the house. Also use a lot of moisturizing lotion cuz the hot showers are going to dry your skin out.
