My parents separated when I was six, and since I was at such at young age, I always thought it was my fault. Their divorce was final when I was around 15, and I had tried my best to get them to reconcile by then. But I soon realized that it was for the best that they not be married anymore.
Since you are a lot older than I was, I can sympathize with your hurt, but there is nothing really you can do about it, it's their relationship. The only thing you can do is demand that they be civil to each other whether you're around to hear it or not. They must not be allowed to demean the other parent in your presence, at any time. If they make the effort to be nice, they will learn to be nice to each other, for your sake. Good luck.

Nope. My parents have been happily married for almost 35 years and been through a lot. I know it's rare and I feel bad for those who's parents are divorced but sometimes that's for the best. My husband's parents have been divorced since he was 2 and I have another friend who I haven't see in years parents who were divorced. I think it's sad and I'm sorry that your parents are divorced and all you other ones out there aswell.

When I was 11, my parents told us kids the day after Christmas that they were getting a divorce. Though it hurt at the time, it was for the best in the long run. People who don't love one another anymore shouldn't stay together just because there are children involved. That can be more emotionally damaging for them than calling it quits (not to say that they shouldn't try to reconcile).
You still love your parents, and they still love you. That's the most important thing. Be thankful! :)

From a parent's perspective, I know the feeling. I feel for my children because after 28 years, my ex decided to call it quit. He said the kids will be happy if we are divorced. I don't understand how the man thinks!!
I would stay and suffer for the sake of my children; but it doesn't work when the other person filed for divorce.
Cheer up, honey. Hang around with your friends who support you. You will be OK.

In this part of the world where I live divorce is a rarity. People once married lead all their life together. Slowly the culture of divorce has reached big cities. It is still the same in the interior of the country.

Yep, they sure are. I'm 16 and my parents' divorce was finalized when I was 2 weeks old. Sorry about your parents. I'm sure it hurts, but maybe it's for the best. Wouldn't you want them to be happy apart rather than miserable together?

YES! When I was a child. I believe it is the worst thing to happen in a child's life. I think that is why to this day I can't or won't have children. I NEVER want my kids (if I ever had any) to have to go through what I did. So sorry for you too!!

My parents have been divorced for 15 years. The older you get, the more you'll understand. It gets better and you learn from their mistakes.

sorry about that kiddo, but things happen for a reason, they didn't get divorced to hurt you, it was to try to stop their hurting of each other. some day you will understand this, doesnt make it any easier for you, and you prolly don't understand, but the thing is, remember your parents LOVE YOU!
