They can't be underdogs yet since the playoffs haven't started.
If you're asking why they might not be favored to win it all, that's just speculation on the part of prognosticators - Rex Grossman is too inconsistent, and their fortunes essentially rely on him if they're going to keep him under center. Not only that, but their "mighty" defense has become a bit suspect with injuries and off-the-field issues.

I don’t understand why they would be?… I mean, I’m not a Bears fan… but without a doubt they have been the most consistent team in the NFC (maybe even the NFL) this year.
When Grossman was doing horrendous, the media was all over Rex and saying how the Bears defense carries the whole team and they cant make it with Grossman being the QB bla bla bla… now that the Bears defense hasn’t been dominate the past two weeks against two bad teams (but they still got the W by the way) there are moans that this defense isn’t good enough to go deep in the playoffs. And it’s not like those games were do or die -- they had home field advantage locked up already.

Because, no offense if your a Chicago fan, Rex Grossman cannot qb a superbowl winning team. The Bears have a great D, but that can't win it all. They are in the NFC, a weak conference if you have noticed. And once they get to the playoffs, they will face great teams from the AFC. Urlacher can't lead a defense to beat those great teams while Grossman throws up a pick. They might win the first playoff match, if their lucky, but after that Grossman would have to be like Joe Montana.

The Bears wasted a opportunity to get Brian Griese in the game more as he could have played the entire second half. I think he is better he went6 for 9 so They should take advantadge of the fact that they dont need a win in the last game to get him some more work. If they have to play Drew Breese in the NFC championship game he should be able to get them there and also win the Superbowl. Rex is good but a switch might be what is needed to win the whole thing and Chicago can win the whole thing.

Their offense isn't the problem, it has been poor all year.
The correct answers are
1 The D line is banged up and giving up big yards on the ground
2 They played one of the easiest schedules. If the Titans had had the opportunity to play Detroit, Green Bay and the Vikes twice they would have the 5th seed locked up in the AFC, which means the Bears would be lucky to be the 6th seed in the AFC. They are thanking the football gods they are in the NFC.

apparently if you are the first team in 21 years to go undefeated in the nfc, then you suck lol. Anyway i am a huge bear fan and nobody out there is going to respect the Bears if they don't get that first victory in the playoffs. However, if and when they get to the super bowl, the afc does look better than any nfc team(But the secret is our defense has to be there with a mistake free rex and we will win it easily)
