I don't think that an employer can deduct "mistakes" from employees wages. It is the employer's responsibility to recruit, select and train competent employees. If you have been making mistakes and the employer fails to correct the problem - poor math skills, wrong price for order, etc. - either through counseling or retraining, then the owner has to share responsibility.

If the employer has been deducting monies from your paycheck without your consent, then you may have the basis for a complaint. Call the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division for clarification and, if warranted, a complaint.

However, another option for the employer is to terminate you.

My first impression would be- No.
Your best bet would be to get a copy of your employee manual, if your company has one. Consult that to see if it addresses your issue.
After that, I would contact your state's Dept. of Labor- they usually have employee help lines that you can call. Link- http://www.dol.gov/esa/contacts/state_of.htm

The US DOL doesn't address the issue in the compliance section, which makes me wonder if any entity has really set it in stone. One thing to consider is that, while perhaps your wages can't be docked for it, your employer can still fire you.

Good Luck.

I would say that there is a training period where boo-boo's should be overlooked but after that It's appropriate. Mistakes on a ticket cost your employer money that he/she is entitled to.
