James' was the Lord of Funk, the originator of a unique music. What Count Basie was to the 30's and 40's, James' was to the 60's and thereafter. His band was among the tightest that one could ever hear who listened and knew music -- very exacting. 'A legend indeed he was, with a considerably unorthodox compositional and arrangement method in how he formulated a chart of music and visual effect on stage.
His was a signature sound and style and is still the common thread throughout all popular music and continually serves as a reference point for musicians of all styles and all people of humble beginnings and cultures the world over.
James' was the Master.

He will be forgotten in time. There is a quote from one of Shakespeare's works, "For the evil that men do lives after them, but the good is oft interred with their bones." Sadly, unlike Shakespeare, Adolf Hitler will be remembered long after James Brown or most other celebrities are forgotten. It'll happen quickly too. When I was growing up, there was a big deal each year about Elvis. He is nearly forgotten by the masses. Irving Berlin did more for popular music than anyone else; he is forgotten though we still sing his songs. Many others will be forgotten. Sorry. It's a matter of generations. What doesn't get passed down, put in the history books, or is hip and cool is forgotten and forgotten quickly.
Sorry. But at least you'll remember even if your grandchildren or great-grandchildren don't.

Who's James Brown!?!
Juuust kidding. Like the above said, he will be remembered shortly, but evil will be remembered more. It also depends on the person, people who are really into music would definately see him for the legend that he is. His contributions to music and stage performance really out did Elvis. Major influence on Motown, rock, dance, and the entire notion of performance.

an Illusion? he was flesh and blood perhaps you are thinking of some other word , anyhow, he will always be a LEGEND, he was as influential on music as the Beatles, elvis, Chuck Berry, Ella, Billie, Motzart, Beethoven these are all to music what Shakespere was to word, they have ALL left their marks on music even Leonard Bernstein liked James Brown's music, maybe they are jammin together now, its about MUSIC and musicianship and the SOUL of a musician and the breathe of life that the musician gives to the music, the Godfather's music and all these others' will LIVE FOREVER in all different types of music from now on in the music of those who will dream, imagine and bring forth life to THEIR own new sounds, all music is born from that which has been played before.. example: the blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll

An illusion? What the heck are you talking about? The guy is the Godfather of Soul! I think it was Little Richard who said that he was the "real King of Rock and Roll!"

There will be those that say he was a legend. I feel that is being a bit kind and over-rated. He was a celebrity. Like most ALL celebrities they entertain and that's about it. Beyond entertainment they make little contribution to the well-being of society.
