I read about too many different theories. I have always felt comfortable with Norton. I had bad luck with McAfee.

1. For your Anti-Virus.........................

I like the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Updates many times per day to detect new malware.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

2. For your Firewall......................

An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even a lot of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.

And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:

The most trustable Firewall is Windows Defender Beta 2. You can download this for free from www.microsoft.com. All these other firewall programs (e.g. Zone-alarm), are 3-party softwares (harmful and sometimes fake). And plus, Windows defender is reliable (it belongs to Microsoft), and it does not slow your computer down. It's free.

Antivirus: 3 best: Sophos, Norton, AVG Free.

Sophos (4.9/5): if someone works at the U of S, you can get the software for free; or you can just buy it. Sophos is very reliable, it is a little heavy (your computer may slow down just a bit), but it is very strong. I have this software.

Norton (4.5/5): very reliable, very heavy on any computer (slows computer down a lot), but is very strong. You can buy this software or download it from www.google.com (go to extras...and then find it from there......you can use it for 6-months).

AVG Free(4/5): it is a free anti-virus software. It is a very light software (does not slow your computer), and is reliable.....though it is not as strong as Sophos or Norton. Just go to www.google.com and type in "download AVG Free".

Spyware: (all free)

Ad-Aware (4/5): Very good....blocks almost all spyware......go to google and type in "download Ad-Aware SE Personal".

SpywareBlaster (4/5): Very good....google.com and type in "download Spyware Blaster".

Spybot Search & Destroy (3.5/5): go to google and type in "download spybot search and destroy".

Spyware Terminator (5/5): Very good........it has every protection you need.....very reliable. Go to google and type in "download spyware terminator. It gives you real-time protection. and is very very good....it also has a great interface too.
