not sure.maybe they still buy the same size they did ten years ago and they havent any mirrors in their house

They do it because they want to feel like they can wear a smaller size. But the thing is you don't look attractive if you don't fit the clothes. Size really is just a number. You can be "big" and still be attractive if you dress in clothes that FIT you and make you look good.
Being thin isn't healthy for everyone and what makes a person "big" has been blown way out of proportion by our society.

I think the important word in the question is desperate. They desperately want to conform and believe being skinny will get them acceptance. So they buy clothes three sizes too small to fool themselves, then spill over the waist band.

That's something I really don't understand. Size 18 girls wearing size 12 pants. Just because your a plus size girl doesn't mean you have to look bad. Plus size girls can look gorgeous when they wear clothes that are the right size. But someone made the comment that they are in denial and I think that's probably right.

Denial and some sexy clothes aren't made in big sizes. Some big women are sexy (SOME) but for some reason, some clothing lines only make tents!!
or it could be a lack of money due to eating?!??

Why does any person try to get into clothes that are too small for them? Any time you have skin rolling over, under, around or through it's too small. People do it in the mistaken belief that it makes them look smaller.
It doesn't.

I think that they think it makes them look smaller but if a big girl gets clothes too big it looks horible. Get them to fit snug but not too tight and that looks good, or maybe they have gained weight and their clothes are just getting too small

maybe they liked the clothes when they bought them!
i have to say there is an awful lot of ignorant people out there, not every woman is or wants to be a size 8. some women like having curves instead of looking like a beanpole all the time. its every persons right to wear what they want and if others dont like it they can look away.

one i partly agree with the others that they can't face the sze they are and also i know it's a fact that the shops always sell things in barbie doll sizes ,
they run out so so quickly of big sizes and stock largely on small and elfin , as they think the world is made of barbie dolls !

If you mean big like plus sizes then they want to try to fit in with the small anorexic ( sorry if i offend anyone ! ) girls. If you mean big like in age then they want to feel younger!

I think they just grew out of them and still want to wear them. they just need to buy new clothes.
but really, small girls try to squeeze their arses into too-tight clothing as well.
No matter if you're overweight or not, too-tight clothing creates bulges and is not appealing on anyone.
