Every day when I am working at Kroger, I occasionally hear someone say "please?" when he or she did not hear what I said. This usually happens when I tell them the total price of their order or if I was asking what pet they have.

Either they are in shock at how much they spent or it's just a way to say "Can you repeat that, please." Just leaving off everything except please.

because it polite to say please and thank you and you welcome even if someone does not say it it get you further in life.

They must be asking you to please repeat what you said.
