a synonym for this word that could fit in this sentence...the aim of the drug companies are to sell drugs and gain profits. knowing that there are other drugs out there that could perform the same healing for a much more cheaper price.so what they do is advertise the drugs promisingly.and make it look like the perfect remedy for TV viewers. DEEPLY OBSESSED people disregard the side effect that these medications could bring about.

(And by the way, the Civil War did not end slavery. Abe Lincoln effectively signaled the end of slavery with the Emancipation Proclamation...it was in the same time period...but the war, as an event, did not end any slavery.)

Here's a few easy ones... everyone else seems to be overthinking the obvious...

it ended the BANE of slavery...
they are MUTABLE or ADAPTABLE...
DESPERATE people disregard...
(this one's a little simplistic, but hey, see what you think) monitored UNBEKNOWNST TO ME on my own... (surreptitiously is probably the best choice here)
