Let's think about this for a minute...

Contextually, I think you're looking for "injustice" in the first case. But, I would argue that while the resulting sentence reads well, it is historically inaccurate.

For people I would use "multifaceted" to convey complexity, or "dynamic" to convey constantly changing. (I'm not sure of the intent from the sentence.) In poetry I'd use "protean", but not anywhere else.

"Obsessed" is actually a fine word, but probably not right for this case. The people who ignore the possible side-effects in drug adds are typically "desperate for relief", but not obsessed. Deeply obsessed is unnecessarily redundant, except for dramatic effect. You can't really be mildly obsessed.

"Without me knowing" is more properly "without my knowledge", I think. Personally, I prefer "unbeknownst to me".

All in all, you need to be very careful in using other people's vocabularies, particularly in an academic setting. Most instructors are very good at noticing when you've used a style that is not your own. Make sure you understand any advice that you follow and are ready to answer questions about why you chose what you did. (i.e. Don't say, "I don't know, some guy on the Internet suggested it.")

Wow...that's a long question. Get a Thesaurus. It's a whole book of synonyms. You can get a paperback pretty cheap at a used-book store. It's a necessity for writers. Better yet! I just went to www.dictionary.com and "Thesaurus" is one of the choices.Click on that and type the word you want a synonym for, and a whole list of alternatives comes up. By answering your question, I learned something I can use! I'm a writer. Thanks!
