My pc does not even show that there is a dvd drive plugged in to the computer. It was listed as my E drive. Went to use it one day and it is gone. The computer doesn't even recognize that there is something plugged in. I think it is more than the driver being gone but I do not know. The DVD player has very been used very little. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The computer is a Dell if that helps. I have replaced the hard drive and processor. When all that was done, everything was in place and working.

Here are a list of actions you can perform:

1. Check that the dvd player is detected in your BIOS settings.
2. remove and reattach the data and power cables connected to the player. Better, put in any unused cables as it could be possible that any one of the cables may not be working.
3. Download and install the latest drivers. Download them from the manufacturer's website.
4. Make sure you have the correct slave/master settings on the drive.

If none of this works, you can try to reinstall the OS as the problem could also be from there. If that doesnt work, put the drive in another system to see if it is picked up.

Try right clicking on My Computer and then select Properties.
That will bring up a page with several tabs. Select Hardware and then Device Manager. That will show you everything you have in your computer. Any device that has a yellow ? by it has a problem. If your DVD drive shows up in there click the + sign and see what it says. Once it gives you the type of DVD, double click on that and it will give you some more screens and I believe the top one will tell you if the device is working properly and there is a trouble shooting method listed also.

First of all, you'd better check your BIOS settings. Enter the BIOS (by pressing the specified key, normally F2 or del while the system starts to boot up). Then go to the drive configuration section, see if there is the drive listed there. If its not, then there's either some problem with the connection or the device itself.

If you know what you are doing, check the IDE cables and the power connector to the DVD drive and check if it is working. Still if not, then you might have to repair/replace the drive.
