Yes.

It is the first generation of Intel dual core desktop processors ... not near as powerful as the newer Core2Duo units.

Buy it if you are getting a really good deal. I would compare pricing to models with the Core2Duo or with the AMD X2 64 processors.

Avoid the 800 series of Pentium D ... these are the low end dual cores. If that's the price range you wish to spend please consider an AMD X2 64 4600 & higher. They will dance circles around the Pentium D & are often less expensive.

Yes, and the Pentium D 830 ($130) can be overclocked up to 4.2 GHz with liquid cooling(another $130 for a good one)..higher than that you can't boot windows...

Yeah dual core, its not a bad processor, i got one just as it was out. Now got a core2duo and the difference is minimal for good priced alternative i would.

if you build your own computer
get the Pentium D 805 presler from www.newegg.com
i got one for my sister's computer
and (it runs at a 2.4ghz i think stock)
but i have it running at 3.2ghz easy with air cooling
you can get up to 3.6ghz, but her motherboard doesn't have some programs that would be nice to have
