as you ask [ is it true ithat it was reported ] and you are reporting this now, then i would say that it is true that it was reported that he drank 50 cups a day as i heard the report from you.

I don't think that's true, although I don't know everything about him. I know French writer Balzac is reported to have drank 50 cups of coffee a day, and would sleep three to four hours a night.

I am not sure if that is at all possible. I would have to say it is false. From personal experiance, In my younger days, I averaged 15 cups of coffee a day and that was quite a large anount.

I can't remember if it was Voltaire or not, but I do know one of these French writers/philosophers died of caffiene poisoning. 50 cups a day would probably do it. Even if it wasn't him, I bet he was really jittery.

I read Voltaire in college many years ago and I don't remember reading anything like that...I will go with false..but leave a sliver of a crack open for true

I would say false. But I was not there to witnesses his drinking habits. Nor do I know of any eyewitness testimony that verifies or falsifies this claim.
