Okey here goes nothing. I got a Presario V6000 for Christmas this year and i know nothing about laptops. I'm setting up my computer right now and I'm stuck. It says unable to connect to the internet. Well, i though using my wireless Linksys set would help but apparently not because i still can not connect. What do I need to do? Help?

Assuming your router is connected to the internet via modem and your laptop is wireless, select "connect thru lan" when you run the internet wizard. The internet connection wizard is in accessories, communications.

Step 1.
Go to your start menu and select "Settings" and open the "Control Panel."

Step 2.
Check "Switch to classic view."

Step 3.
Open the "Network Connections" icon.

Step 4.
Click on "Create a new connection."

Step 5.
Click "Next."

Step 6.
Select the top option, "Connect to the Internet," and click "Next."

Step 7.
Select the middle option "Set up my connection manually" and click "Next."

Step 8.
Select "Connect using dial-up modem" and click "Next."

Step 9
Enter a name for the connection and click "Next."

Step 10.
Find a phone number that is a local call for you. Enter that phone number into the "Phone Number" box. For example, 8632222 is the phone number for University Park. Note: You will incur long-distance charges if you enter this number and it is not a local number from where you're dialing. If you are in an area that requires you to dial the area code for local calls then you need to enter the area code into this box too.

Step 11.
Enter your ISP access id all in lowercase letters in the "Username" box. Enter the password in the correct boxes.

Step 12.
Click "Finish."

Step 13.
Click on the "Start" button, click "Settings" and click "Network Connections."

Step 14.
Click Connect.

Note: Make sure that the new connection is also set as the present connection to be dialed in your IE.
To do this open IE, Tools->Options->Connection.

First you'll need to make sure that the wireless connection is turned on, second scan for available networks, third enter the encryption key for your network.....or connect the laptop directly to the router, and select to connect using a lan connection and let windows do the work, if you don't have the network setup then you'll need to "login" to the router and set it up....usually 192.168.100.1 entered in the bgrowser will get you to the router (assuming its on and connected).

Did you use the wizard ??? Did you look at your documentation to see what it says about hooking up to a network??? That's your best bet. Otherwise, get out your Linksys wireless router's User Guide and see what it says about adding a computer to the network.
