For special education purposes, it essentially means that a student's emotional or behavioral functioning in school is so different from his or her same-age peers, that he or she requires special education services to access the general curriculum. If the student's functioning is extremely different, he or she may receive replacement curriculum, depending on his or her Individual Education Plan.

disorders means a medical condition involving a disturbance to the usual functioning of the mind or body
