i understand the difference of the angles of the glass window between the two type of cars - i'm not questioning about the design of the cars. but why there is no rear-window wipers in that type of sedans?

safety reasons? in what way? don't you think we actually need the rear-window wiper more when we're using the car type that currently doesn't have the rear-wiper (in respect to the distance from the rear window to the back of the car and to the wall or whatever things that the car might bump into - when driving in reverse)? and it's for safety purposes, why did i never see a rear-wiper on that type of car (mentioned above - link provided)? does it mean the cars with the rear-window wiper on is far more safer?

ps. thank you so much for those who has participated in this such unimportant topic =.=

the rear wiper is for wiping the rear window...I own a wagon...never gotten a ticket in a wagon and I had a rejection sticker for 5 months and drove past cops all the time...its OK now..but I use my rear wiper all the time in the rain and snow..you mostly get hit from the rear..and being able to see behind you is very important. the rear window on wagons are some what flat..and need a wiper on a regular car the wind flow over the back window..

I even have an 05 Matrix XR AWD hatch and that i've got a rear wiper. the hot Mazda 6 sedan has a rear wiper besides. So did the Acura RSX. One large reason is that considering that SUVs have extra suitable roofs, water has a tendency to roll straight away off the roof and over the glass hindering imaginitive and prescient. On a sedan the rear windshield is raked (angled) so water flows precise off of it and into the channels alongside the trunk for drainage. yet one extra reason is the top of the motor vehicle. extra spray is created via an SUV or hatchback because of the fact they don't have long trunk aspects previous the rear wheels. as a result the vortex of air created via those automobiles pulls the spray coming from below the motor vehicle up and decrease back so it covers the rear. next time interior the rain take a peek at an SUV using via and you will see the spray curtain in the back of it. What kills me is the folk who've rear wipers and by no skill use them.

The rear window wiper is an extra option. I tried to buy one from a dealer (for a 1989 Horizon), and was quoted a price of $375 for the motor alone. After doing a little research, I found that this option is not offered on all makes and models, and the models it is offered ranges from $600 to $900 as an extra option (included in premium packages like "sport" or "luxury").

The only and best way to answer that is it's the way the units designed. I work in the Auto industry and that along with added cost to the vehicle are the only answers the engineer ever supply. I think it has something to do with the angle of the glass on the back window.

It's at the manufacture's discretion, sometimes as an option but mostly for safety, knowing that over spray will hinder rear visibility.
