Why does the govermrnt put these stupid warnings on them saying not for children under 8? My girlfreinds daughter had a sleepover for her 6th birthday. We stuffed the rec room in the basement with giant size balloons and those kids just had a ball with them all night playing with them throwing them around and yes even popping them, they loved bouncing on them. We saw noting in the least dangerous about any of this.

Balloons can be dangerous if children bite them or suck on them, they can go down their throat. What you described above is fine. Here is a link that describes what is dangerous about balloons.

Sometimes when they burst they can break apart.
Children, and pets can swallow the pieces.
They could also choke on the smaller balloons.
I've seen this almost happen. The Parent got the
balloon out of the choking child's throat.
I've seen dogs trying to chew flatten balloons before.

okay i have a reason that is from experience. a few years ago my friend matt was having is 8 year birthday party. a few hours before we were at school and he got called to the office, in the office was his dad crying, turns out his mom had been blowing up balloons, she hadnt even blown up that many. and when she was blowing one up, an artery on her head POPPED. instead of his party, he had to go to the church and funeral home, his mom died instantly and they needed to plan a funeral.

Well if they pop they can get caught in a childs throat causing chocking or if they're deflated again babies can swallow them. If a child does not choke it could get caught in the body and rarely need to be surgically removed.

you're right. balloons are pretty harmless, unless kids chew on them and get them caught in their windpipes. i think the age recommendation is primarily to avoid choking.
