I just heard the very sad news this morning that James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, passed away, from complications of pneumonia( in a Georgia Hospital).
Even as a kid,I would get on up and dance when I heard his records or heard his songs on the radio. Infectious rhythms, and a voice that could knock you out with his pure soul and energy.
There are too many fave songs of his to list, but among my faves are,"The Payback","Funky Good Time"," Get Up (Sex Machine) and of course,"I Got The Feelin" and " Papa's Got A Brand New Bag".
James was to play B.B. King's(NYC) New Year's Eve. At 73,he was still the hardest working man in show biz. This gal will celebrate him in spirit. I'm sure he's got the angels getting on the good foot now.

Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine).
Highly infectious dance tune which still sounds so fresh. Listen to a clip below.
I was very sad to hear the news - I imagined James Brown would go on well into his 80s. He will funk up heaven for sure.

Track 7 of his brilliant "Live At The Apollo" (1962), which is a medley:
"Please Please Please / You've Got The Power / I Found Someone / Why Do You Do Me Like You Do..."
This WHOLE album lets you feel like you were there, SO much energy.
And the engineering on the album surpasses anything today.
Why?
Only two microphones were used, there was no post-studio remastering and it doesn't have any special effects.
A work of geniuses, on both Brown's part and the recording engineer's!
Rest in peace, James!

I didn't know this, so the hardest working man in show business takes a rest.
Going to have to be predictable and choose
'Get up , I feel like being a sex machine'
R.I.P Mr Brown

I like "It's a man's world" and "Get up"(sexmachine) best.
I've never seen him live, but I remember seeing him that first time on TV in the 60s.......I loved his music.
P.s. : just read the other answers, how could I forget to add "I feel good" to my list of his favs songs? It's definitely on number one for me!!

I wasn't really what you'd call a fan, but I did like "Living in America" a lot.
