Dr's say that the pacifier is a help against SIDS, not a cause, so you don't have to take it out

I've heard the opposite of what you posted about SIDS...that sucking on a pacifier reduces the risk because they don't sleep quite as deeply. I certainly don't think that using a pacifier now will hurt her in the future. It's good that you're offering her the security that she desires, whether by using a pacifier or by other means. The more secure she is in your being there and your love for her, the more secure she will be in herself as she grows. She'll be able to be a strong independent woman (though of course a pacifier alone will not ensure that :o)!

My son loves his pacifier too...not for hours at a time, but still. Talk to your doctor if you're really worried about her using it as much as she does. Also, your doctor will tell you this as well, don't take the pacifier out of her mouth just because she's sleeping...they say that can actually help prevent SIDS. The only thing is, when she's sleeping, if she spits the pacifier out or it falls out or whatever, DON'T try and put it back in her mouth. Good Luck with your daughter...aren't babies just the greatest thing??

It is perfectly fine for your daughter to suck a pacifier. It is actually healthy for her at her age it soothes her and excercises her sucking skills. A long as she's off of it by age 1 or 2. then it starts messing with the way there teeth grow and form. It will make her teeth stick outward.

I don't pacifier's are bad but i wouldn't let her suck on it all the time. Then she might have a problem learning how to make sounds.. Babies need to learn a lot of things especially useing their voice and mouth to make sounds and if that pacifier is in her mouth all the time she might have trouble learning to use her voice. And sometimes it is hard to break them of using it. I have seen children 2 years old and still sucking on one and i think that is ridiculous. But it is up to the parents u use your judgement.

Pacifiers are soothing for babies thats why they can suck on one for hours. Its harmless and I believe I heard it reduces the risk of SIDS. As they get older its not good for there teeth especially after one years old.

As long as it is gone by they time she is four there should be no permanent damage to her teeth. That is what my dentist told me. Let her sleep with it, everything I have heard shows it can help reduce the chance of SIDS

It is fine for her to do this. It adds great comfort to her. She will give it up when she does not feel the need for it. Being rocked is another thing she needs to be content. Never too much of that, or too much holding. She is only that young once.

Yes, it will probably make her teeth crooked and need braces. If that's not a serious matter for you then let her use her pacifier.
